Organisms, plants, beings - nature, naturalness, and the primordial are recurring themes in Sonja Keppler’s work. Her sculptures draw upon forms that have appeared throughout human history and across cultures: archetypal shapes that speak of humanity’s enduring relationship with nature, spirituality, and the search for belonging.

The longing to reconnect with the natural world resonates throughout her practice. Through experimentation with diverse materials and a subtle sense of humor, Keppler creates sculptures that translate archaic symbolism into a contemporary context. The works establish a dialogue with the exhibition space and invite an intimate encounter with the viewer.

The sculptures emerge through the combination of varied materials and processes. Natural materials such as sawdust and rice contribute to their rough, organic surfaces, while beeswax and recycled materials are incorporated into the forms. Experimental in character, the objects evoke living organisms, ancient artifacts, or unknown beings, hovering between familiarity and mystery.
